Come learn about the different ways faculty and students use ethnography to support their education research!
Brendan H. O’Connor is Assistant Professor in the School of Transborder Studies and Affiliated Faculty in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. He is a linguistic anthropologist of education whose research and teaching focus broadly on language, identity, and the cultural context of schooling in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands
Sarah Diaz is a doctoral candidate in the Learning, Literacies, and Technologies program. Her ethnographic research focuses on examining the “social forces [individual, institutional, interpersonal influences] that intertwine to construct an identity of [dis]ability” (Harry and Klingner, 2014, p. 13), which mediate teacher’s decision-making processes for academically struggling English learners.
